TOP SE PA Jr. QBs ready for 2014 season openers

SPORTSfever staff reports from West Chester East and Plymouth-Whitemarsh High Schools, PA August 22, 2014..............
West Chester East QB Jon Jon Roberts and Council Rock North QB Brandon McIlwain have their dynamic, dual-threat games ready to go for the season openers this Friday night.

Both of the blue-chip juniors, who have started since their freshmen seasons, showed their array of skills and talents in their respective scrimmages on Friday night.

Roberts, who enters the season with 3,227 yards passing in his career, passed for three TDs on the Vikings first three possessions against undermanned Norristown. He also had a number of positive-yardage runs out of the shot-gun. WCE dominated the Norristown first-teamers, outscoring the Eagles 3-0 on the first three possessions.

McIlwain, who has passed for 2,979 yards in his career, ran for one touchdown and had a number of impressive throws but was under constant pressure from a strong defensive unit for Plymouth-Whitemarsh. McIlwain, who has a two dozen major college scholarship offers, also played safety and had a 80-yard interception return that was stopped just short of the endzone as the first-half clock ran out.

P-W outscored CRN 3-2 in a first-half played as a true game.

P-W junior RB Nafeese Nasir stole the show by scoring three TDs on a kick-off return, 10-yard run and a pass reception.

Of the four teams that SPORTSfever watched on a cloudy cool later afternoon and early evening, P-W was the strongest. The Colonials have a pair of strong RBs (Nasir and Jake Winterbottom) and can dominate the line of scrimmage. OL/DL Ryan Bischoff (Virginia recruit) and Steve Kovacic are roadgraders.
WCE opens at home with Penn Wood. CRN opens on the road at Perkiomen Valley.
